Visibility and advocacy are vital

This NFP began 20+ years ago as a volunteer action group campaigning for the introduction of a Domestic Violence Review Board in Queensland. It has evolved into a veritable ‘mouse that roared’.

This small, dynamic and amazingly effective organisation has grown organically. It’s expanded its reach and impact by continually identifying opportunities to advocate for awareness and influence. And through lobbying, building public awareness and leading discussion around domestic violence, has become a respected ‘voice for change’.

It has already succeeded in establishing new specific criminal offences related to interpersonal violence. But for these to have measurable impact, there’s the necessity for ongoing specialist training for police, justice, health, probation and other service groups.

Thankfully, new sources of finance have brought the chance to build on this solid foundation, make things happen and help re-shape the future for victims of domestic and/or family violence.

For a truly passionate and committed CEO, the rewards will be boundless.

And that’s because it’s all about saving lives – in the extreme sense.  But it’s also of giving the freedom to act, independence and a quality to life to women at risk – and their children. So, yes, there’s an urgent need for action. And yes, the need for change is vital and pressing.

But, as with all sweeping change, you have to start at the beginning. And that means taking a long, hard look at what has grown up over the years in terms of services, policies, procedures, governance and of course the ingrained cultures.

Thankfully, for this analytical and strategic work you’ll have the support of a dedicated, multi-skilled Board and an extraordinary team of compassionate and knowledgeable colleagues. So, you will find yourself well supported as you lead change through sensitive communication and engagement.

To bring your best to this high-profile leadership role …

… you will need to draw on the skills you’ve developed as a CEO – board reporting, governance, lobbying, structural advocacy and the ability to form – or enlarge on – strategic alliances at local, state, national and international level.

Strong commercial acumen, financial insight and an understanding of law reform against a legal framework are also necessary. This includes your appreciation of all legal aspects pertaining to violence against women. And of course, we’re expecting to see all those other key capabilities exhibited by a capable and compassionate CEO, used to working within a challenging space.

Your communications abilities are also critical across all aspects of this diverse role. As you act as the public face for this agency, you will need a very special talent to describe to others just what domestic and family violence can mean in a woman’s day-to-day life … and how it relates to other issues affecting women.

Provide the leadership that ensures a courageous, high quality DV service.

A fearless advocate, you will be a voice for change who focuses on direct delivery, education and training, lobbying and law reform, counselling and support and publicly champions your organisation at every opportunity.

It’s a complex role. So, you may care to open a conversation with us before crafting that compelling covering letter where you tell us the story that is uniquely yours. Please include the main values you believe you would add to this exceptional NFP in its endeavour to fight the scourge of domestic and family violence.

To be considered for this role, please forward your cover letter and your resume in WORD format quoting reference number MCCEAD-W to apply@windsor-group.com.au or contact Mike Conroy on 07 3211 0001.
