Karuna Hospice Services is a specialist community-based palliative care charity. Our team supports people living with terminal illness in their homes for as long as possible. We support carers and family members and also assist them with service navigation, grief and bereavement counselling and spiritual care and guidance, no matter the religious or spiritual denomination. Karuna is an inclusive organisation and accepts referrals from a number of sources. Karuna offers a no-fee service accessible throughout Brisbane North and into Caboolture, Redcliffe and Bribie Island.

Current Situation
Karuna is operating well, and services are being provided in accordance with expectations. Current portfolio value of c $5.5 million, and all is in good order. Recent initiatives around diversification have been useful in terms of broadening scope and reach, and this continues to be a focus. Strategic matters are also being prioritised and emphasised.
The Board is a close-knit group, populated with committed and collaborative individuals. There is a strong focus on whatever business is at hand, and matters are completed correctly and on time. There is a positive spirit to the Board, and they do have a little fun along the way.
Current CEO is planning to depart, and interim CEO is currently in place.
About the role
Of critical importance is that in addition to the commercial skills and knowledge offered by CEO candidates, their values alignment must be comfortably aligned with the values-based approach currently in place. In essence, this is an alignment with the principles and methods of the Mahayana Buddhist tradition.
What we are looking for
Over 5 years’ experience in leadership or senior management across either health or social services / community services program delivery particularly in a not-for-profit organisation.
Tertiary level qualifications in business, human resources, health or social services fields.
Completion or current participation in a Board Governance training program.
Ability to work consultatively within a diverse multidisciplinary group.
Experience in strategic planning and annual business plans in a not-for-profit environment.
