  • Current situation

    Australian Counselling Association is a peak body organisation that has been experiencing solid growth in their membership base over recent years. Currently sitting around 17,000 with a prediction this will double over the next 5years. FTE count has risen from 10 to 14 over the last 4 years to be able to service the growing membership. This newly created Executive Officer position is needed to be part of leadership team as a result of a restructure and constitutional changes currently being undertaken. ACA has recently gone through digital transformation upgrading IT, database and website – still in stabilisation mode. 

  • About the role

    The purpose of this role is to provide strategic leadership for the organisation’s corporate and financial governance ensure corporate governance and legal compliance is adhered. This is a leadership role to help position ACA for continued growth and stability aligned with our strategic pillars and forward direction. 

    Supporting and assisting the CEO, the Executive Officer provides leadership across ACA and its industry to ensure ACA is effectively developing and achieving its strategic objectives, by: 

    • delivery of services and projects to benefit members;  
    • operational policies, processes and systems to ensure efficiency and sustainability;  
    • and impactful communications, outreach and advocacy. 

    The important areas of focus for this role are: 

    • Stakeholder Engagement & Relationship Management 
    • Contribute to implementation, evaluation, and adaptation of the ACA Strategic Plan 
    • Advocate & provide thought leadership and subject matter expertise for ACA submissions  
    • Membership Attraction, Retention, Management and Analysis 

    This role requires flexible working hours for occasional weekend work and regular interstate and possible international travel. Executive Officer will be required to work from the head office.

    Position Description

  • What we are looking for
    • Qualifications – CPA or CA qualified. 
    • Senior level financial management expertise, including taxation, compliance, asset management, insurance, reporting and legal issues  
    • Sound stakeholder relationship management – ability to build relationships and strategic partnerships with ACA’s stakeholders including key government, non-government and statutory agencies, ACA membership and philanthropic organisations 
    • People leadership experience in building capacity in team with strong relationship building and stakeholder engagement skills on multiple levels. 
    • Solid experience in NFP and the ability to be ‘hands on’ & own Finance & Corporate Services 
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills 
    • Financial management including budget preparation and control 
    • Exp. with boards, reporting and presentation 
    • Relevant governance & compliance understanding 
    • Exceptional attention to detail and administrative capabilities 
    • Proactive in approach with proven outcomes in project work 
    • Experience in membership-based organisation is a bonus 
    • Strong presentation skills and ability to talk to a varied audience 
    • Ability to work independently, and within a team with strong initiative and organisational skills 
    • Demonstrated strategic planning and operational implementation
